Orange Shirt Day 

Orange Shirt Day is on September 30 annually. It began in 2013 when residential school survivor Phyllis Webstad shared how her orange shirt was taken away on her first day at residential school. This story is an opportunity for students and staff to reflect on history, discuss stories of survival and strength and to share ways we can work together toward truth and reconciliation.

Administration and teachers will be reading Indigenous picture books to springboard discussions and highlight the importance of each student feeling welcome, safe, respected and cared for in their learning community every day.  Students will also make a contribution to a collaborative art piece. 

Students are invited to wear orange Monday September 30.  Please feel welcome to contact the school with any questions.

CASINO BIG THANK YOU’s!!! 

From ALL the Staff & Students we want to personally THANK each of the 40+ volunteers that went out to help run this year’s Casino!!  The funds raised will go to so many activities, resources and so much more which will directly benefit all of our students.  A very special thanks to this year’s coordinator Beth Reinhart she worked tirelessly to organize all the volunteers for this year Casino to run without a hitch.

Picture Day

Student pictures are being held on Thursday Sept. 26.  We will be having retakes date will be TBA and always check out our Belfast School Calendar for the MOST up to date info.  

Snacks & Lunches 

As we are now completing our 3^rd week of school and students are getting into a routines our staff have noticed an increase of food requests at snack & lunch time.  Students have a lot of energy and are requiring more food throughout their day.  We feel that having a ‘check in’  with your student(s) to find out if they need more healthy food & snacks packed for them is necessary. 

Of course, our policy will remain here at Belfast to provide healthy snacks for all students when requested.  If at this time your family is having difficulties please contact us as we can provide many names of services that are willing to help people in need.  Any peanut free snacks & fresh fruits are always greatly accepted in the office.

·       The Terry Fox day is tomorrow (Tues. Sept 17)

·       Students are welcome to dress up as their favorite Super Hero (all day)

·       Assembly starting at 11:15 AM

·       Run/Walk starting directly after the assembly

·       Run/Walk approx. 20 min

·       Kindergarten students are welcome to join in however they must be accompanied by a parent

·       We are accepting Toonies for Terry or any loose change/not so loose bills

·       All donations will be going to support The Terry Fox Foundations in support of cancer research

Outdoor School

Every 2 years our amazing grade 5 & 6 students are able to attend Outdoor school at Camp Chief Hector.  This is an amazing opportunity for our students to be able to connect with nature, learn new information & participate in a variety of amazing activities. 

411 on Outdoor School:

·         Mandatory Parent Meeting on Thurs. Sept. 19 @ 6:00 PM - 6:45 PM 

·         During this meeting, a representative from Camp Chief Hector will be attending and you will learn what will be offered & a Q & A session

·         NOTE: there will be NO available conferences for our Grade 5-6 Teams during this time 

Terry Fox day

Mark your calendars this year our Terry Fox day is being held Tues. Sept. 17.  On this day our students are invited to dress up as their favorite superhero, a short assembly will be held, and then go outside to run.  Specific details will be posted next week.    

Welcome Dance  

What an amazing turnout and can we just say our belfasty students sure know how to dance! We want to thank everyone for their donations again these will go towards field trip busses for our students.  We hope to see you all again, when We Care will be hosting the next dance in the early part of 2020.
